Mater Dei Homeschool Group (MDHSG) is a support group for Catholic homeschoolers who are Mater Dei parishioners or friends. We are not affiliated with any teaching co-op. Our members span from those who have been homeschooling for 20+ years to those who are interested in homeschooling but don’t have school-age children yet. Wherever you fit on the spectrum, we welcome you!
We provide support through monthly Mom meetings, liturgical year festivities, fellowship & fun events, service work, field trips and resource & information sharing. Each year we look to build upon the last by sponsoring favorite traditional activities and welcoming new ideas too. Activities are coordinated by volunteer group members.
Regular sponsored activities include:
Monthly Mom meetings
Held on the second Monday of the month, September-November, January-May in the parish hall. The evening starts with Holy Mass at 6:30 p.m, followed by food, fellowship & an informational presentation regarding education and/or family life.
Liturgical Year Festivities
Annual events have included an All Saints party & St. Joseph brunch/talent show we sponsor for the parish community, children’s St. Nicholas, Valentine’s & St. George parties, and a Couples Date Night around Valentine’s Day .
Fellowship & Fun
Other activities our group has sponsored include the annual Fall Field Day, Father/Son retreat at Clear Creek Monastery in OK, Mother/Daughter tea, monthly First Friday Mass/Park Days, June baseball, Youth dances, field trips and monthly visits to the St. Joseph’s Residence in south Dallas. We also sponsor a high school graduation Mass & ceremony/reception open to area Catholic homeschooling students.
