FAQ
What is this event? By tradition, following Mass on the Feast of Corpus Christi (or the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, which celebrates the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper), Catholics process the Eucharist through the streets of their city, while praying and singing. We place the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance, which is held aloft by a member of the clergy during the procession.
Why do we do it? The Corpus Christi Procession makes known God’s presence in our world and in our lives, and it reminds us of our common call to follow Christ and seek Heaven. It is both an act of personal devotion to Christ in the Eucharist, as well as an act intended to share God’s love with the world, as is manifest in the Blessed Sacrament.
Where is it? The procession will begin after the 5pm Vigil Mass for the Feast of Corpus Christi on June 6th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (3826 Gilbert Avenue, Dallas, TX 75219). Immediately after Mass, we will proceed from Holy Trinity (pausing for four “altar stops” to pray, reflect on Scripture and sing hymns) to Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral (2215 Ross Ave, Dallas, TX 75201) where we will complete the procession with a Holy Hour and Benediction.
How do I get there? Participants are responsible for their own transportation to this event. We will have vehicles available in cases of emergencies, but will not be shuttling people to and from their cars. We recommend participants working out carpools with other participants, so they can park one car at Holy Trinity and one car at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral. Please be aware that not all parking in Downtown is free, so you may need to have cash with you.
Who can participate? This event is intended for those between the ages of 18-40 (also known as “young adults”). We desire to have a large contingent as we witness to the Body and Blood of Christ amongst our young adult peers in Uptown. However, anyone is welcome to attend. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent of guardian.
Do I have to register? It is not mandatory to sign up, but we would appreciate those who are on Facebook to RSVP by joining the Facebook event. It would help us to better plan as well as to cooperate with the City of Dallas on traffic flow.
What if I don’t make it to Holy Trinity before the procession begins? No problem! You can join us at one of the altar stops along the way or meet us at the Cathedral at 8:30PM (our estimated arrival time). We will post the location and estimated time of arrival for the altar stops as we draw near to the event.
Can I join in adoration, but not walk in the procession? Absolutely! If you are unable to walk with us, you can join us at the Cathedral at 8:30pm.
How far is the procession? From start to end it is just a little over 2 miles. We will take approximately 2.5 hours due to the large crowd and altar stops.
What is the dress attire? Please dress comfortably, but appropriately. Remember that we are in the presence of Christ, and are also acting as witnesses of Christ to onlookers. Represent yourself AND Jesus well. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes if you plan to walk in the procession.
What happens if weather is bad that day? We cannot predict the weather this far in advance; especially in Texas. Therefore, we will post any changes and backup plans at a closer date if the weather is bad.
Will there be restrooms along the way? It will be essential to make use of the restrooms at Holy Trinity prior to our departure. We will be walking through primarily residential areas, and available restroom facilities will be sparse. There will not be any scheduled restroom breaks along the way. If you do have to stop, it will be your responsibility to catch up with the procession again afterward.
