On Thursday, May 25th, the following music of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina will be sung by Schola Marianum at the 7pm high mass, in celebration of the feast of Ascension:
Missa Aeterna Christi Munera (by Palestrina)
Regina Coeli (Palestrina)
Translation: Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
For He whom you were worthy to bear, alleluia.
[Now] has risen, as He said, alleluia.
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
O Rex Gloriae (Palestrina)
Translation: O King of glory, Lord of all power,
Who ascended to heaven on this day triumphant over all;
Do not leave us as orphans,
But send us the Father’s promise,
The spirit of truth.
Alleluia.
Exultate Deo (Palestrina) – Ps. 80 vs. 2-4
Translation: Sing we merrily unto God our strength : make a cheerful noise unto the God of Jacob.
Take the psalm, bring hither the tabret : the merry harp with the lute.
Blow up the trumpet in the new-moon : even in the time appointed, and upon our solemn feast-day.
Opening and closing hymns will be “Jesus Christ is Ris’n Today” and “Come Holy Ghost”, respectively.
Happy Feast Day!
