Music for Solemnity of St. Joseph

Tomorrow evening, to honor the feast of St. Joseph, the St. Cecilia girls choir, ladies from the Goretti Youth choir, and the parish women’s schola will join efforts to sing for his solemnity.

Since it is a solemnity during Lent, the Gloria is sung, and the organ will be heard once again.

Boys/Youth sing for high mass this Sunday

This Sunday, the St. Gregory boys choir will be singing for the 2nd Sunday of Lent, in conjunction with young men from the Goretti Youth choir, and Schola Gregoriana, our parish men’s schola.
The boys will be singing a number of Lenten hymns, as well as a particular hymn to honor St. Gregory the Great, pope and confessor, whose feast day (March 12th) falls on Sunday this year.
Mr. Fowler and I hope the music will aid your prayer at mass this coming Sunday, as you prepare in penance and sacrifice to celebrate the triumph of Easter!

Big Weekend of Music for the Choirs

This weekend there is an event or liturgy every evening, starting with Epiphany mass at 8pm tomorrow night.

Epiphany music will be sung by Schola Marianum, and features music by Victoria, Byrd, and others:

Missa O Magnum Mysterium (Victoria)

Omnes de Saba Venient (Asula)

Reges Tharsis (Grassi)

Vidimus Stellam (Byrd)

Saturday Evening:

The St. Cecilia girls choir will  lead the singing of carols during the Christmas play, at 6pm.

Come join them, and for food and fellowship afterwards!

Sunday:

St. Cecilia girls choir and women of St. Hildegard schola will sing at 9am mass for the Feast of the Holy Family.

Music for Christmas Masses

Dear Parishioners,

A Merry Christmas to you all! The choirs of Mater Dei hope that your minds and hearts will be further uplifted to God by the music at the sung liturgies this weekend.

At midnight Mass:

The mass setting will be Missa O Quam Gloriosum, by Victoria.

The ushers will have a handout for you that contains the order of all the pre-mass Christmas carols we will sing. This begins at 11pm. It also contains the translations of Latin hymns and motets sung before before and during the midnight mass.

We hope this further edifies you and aids your meditation on this Christmas feast!

 

At 9 am Christmas Day Mass:

Schola Marianum will sing Missa O Magnum Mysterium by Victoria, and the following motets:
