Once again, please be charitable to your neighbor by considering if it is wise to come to church (or any public place) if you are sick.  It’s not so much about how you feel, but about how contagious you might be (coughing/sneezing).

The Sunday obligation is not binding if there is a good reason.

Likewise, if your health is not top-top, you may want to consider coming to a less crowded Mass, to avoid a lot potentially germ-carrying neighbors.  Right now it is looking like the 7:30 & 1:00 would be the less crowded, but we don’t really know about the 1:00 yet.

No germs in heaven!  Be saints!

Lenten food for the Carmelite Nuns

Discalced Carmelite Coat of ArmsThe Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Dallas are in need of some Lenten pantry items. If you are able to purchase items for the Carmel, please leave them on the Carmelite table in the Parish Hall.

The Truty family will bring the items to Sisters each Sunday during Lent. If you would rather take them to the Carmelites yourself they would like very much to say hello. Their address is 600 Flowers Ave, Dallas, TX 75211. If you have any questions you can contact Cheryl Truty at materetmagistra1@gmail.com.

The nuns eat only vegetarian foods so the soups need to be non meat based. I found that many of the Progresso soups fit this criteria. The items they are in need of are as follows:

  • Soups(Vegetarian) any flavor, vegetable broth
  • Juices (Apple, Grape, Cranberry, Cranberry mix, Some sugar free if possible)
  • Vegetables any kind ( To make homemade soups)
  • Rice, Quinoa or any other grains that can be cooked like rice
  • Beans of all varieties

Pro Life Activities at Mater Dei

Mater Dei will be taking 3 buses from our parking lot to the Roe Memorial events in downtown Dallas. Reserve your seat by filling out online form below or on Sunday in the Parish Hall.

Schedule for Roe Memorial Events for Mater Dei

12:00 PM – Mass at Mater Dei
2:00 PM – Load up buses for March
2:30 PM – Arrive at Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center
3:00 PM – March for Life from Convention Center to Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse
3:30 PM – Rally for Life at Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse
4:30 PM – Return to Convention Center
5:00 PM – Load buses for return trip to Irving
5:30 PM – Arrive at Mater Dei

Unfortunately, there will not be a priest available to go to the March with the parishioners this year.

On January 16, 2016, North Texas will mark the 43rd anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s tragic Roe v. Wade decision of January 22, 1973, making abortion available on demand in America through all 9 months of pregnancy and leading to the death of over 56 million unborn children.  Join Bishop Kevin Farrell and thousands of faithful in prayerful remembrance and public witness.  This year’s theme is “SPEAK LIFE to this present darkness.”

Below is the schedule of events:

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  Roe Memorial Rosaries outside the Southwestern abortion facility, 8616 Greenville Ave., Dallas. (Parking available on Boundbrook Ave. and Gaston Christian Center parking lot, 8515 Greenville) and Planned Parenthood abortion facility, 7989 West Virginia Dr, Dallas (street parking available)

11:30 a.m. Concert for Life at the convention center in Dallas, 650 S Griffin St. (Doors open at 11:15 a.m.) featuring Vince Lujan and Manuel Bravo of Jesus Team A, Tori Harris, The Crossroads Pursuit, and Tom Grossman of Communities of Prayer

12:30   Roe Memorial Rose Procession:  A representative born each year from 1973-present is needed to carry a rose in the annual “Procession of Roses” before Mass.  If you were born in 1973 or later and are interested in participating in the Procession of Roses, please email cplc@prolifedallas.org

1:00 p.m. Roe Memorial Mass & Adoration:  A bilingual Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Kevin Farrell with concelebrants Bishops Michael Olson and Douglas Deshotel and Father Abbot Peter Verhalen, along with diocesan clergy at the convention center in Dallas (seating for 9,000!).  This year’s homilist will be Father Edwin Leonard.

3:00 p.m. North Texas March for Life & Rally – the State’s largest Pro-Life March and Rally in memory of Roe v. Wade: Following Mass, the Bishops will lead us as we march from the convention center to the rally outside the Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse, housing the district court where the Roe v. Wade case was first filed in 1970.  Rally speakers include Bishop Kevin Farrell, Dr. Tony Evans of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, Marianna Schroeder of Respeto a la Vida de Fort Worth and former abortion facility worker Jewels Green.

11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Ministry Fair at the convention center

Bishop Farrell would especially like to see many young people participating (from parish youth groups, Catholic high schools, Scout troops, etc.).  Bring your school, club or troop banner for the march!  Also – Consider riding the DART Rail to the Roe Memorial Events this year to save time and money on parking.  We are also in need of volunteers, particularly Knights of Columbus, parish ushers and police or security officers.  Don’t miss this annual event for Life!!  For more information, visit prolifedallas.org/roe or call 972-267-LIFE (5433).

Blessing of Epiphany Water

The blessing of Epiphany water will take place in the chapel on Tuesday, January 5th at 5:00 PM.

You may attend the blessing and bring bottles to fill with the blessed water. Blessed water will also be available in the vestibule until it runs out.

Epiphany Blessing of Gold, Frankincense, Myrrh, and Chalk

On Wednesday, January 6th there will be the blessing of gold, frankincense, myrrh, and chalk after each Mass.

This blessing will be repeated on the following Sunday, also after each Mass.

Bring your gold, but don’t expose it; the priests can bless it just as well in your pocket.
