Assumption of the BVM - Holy Day of Obligation

Holy Day of Obligation. Whenever the Assumption falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated. 1 Mass Pro Populo is proscribed when it is a Holy Day of Obligation

The Church celebrates today with great joy our Lady’s immediate entry, body and soul, into the glory of heaven, giving praise to her in whom the Redemption was fully effective without restriction, since, before all the other saints, she was privileged to enjoy the resurrection of the body, following the example of the Risen Christ Himself. A great sign appeared in heaven; the Mass of this feast, introduced by Pius XII after the definition of the dogma on November 1, 1950, sees in the woman portrayed in the Apocalypse, clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars the glorified Mother of God in the full radiance of her eternal glory.

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP) serves in apostolates across the world, with the faithful celebration of the traditional Mass and Sacraments (Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite) at the center of their charism.

Do not feel out of place if you are not familiar with Latin (you will see most people reading a translation) or if the actions on the altar look different – this same Mass was known by Roman Catholics around the world for centuries!
