Long live Christ the King!
Tomorrow we celebrate the annual feast of Christ the King, and end high mass with a Eucharistic procession.
The choir will be singing a mixture of music from different time eras, to honor this happy feast day.
The mass setting will be Missa Caritas by William J. Marsh.
He was a local musician and teacher, and a practicing Catholic. You can read about him here.
Again this year, we will sing the triumphant motet by Antonio Cifra, “Ave Rex Noster”, originally arranged for brass quartet.
The rest of our choral hymns are all in some way part of the full text of the hymn “Jesu Dulcis Memoria”, which you can often find translated somewhere in your hand missals:
- Jesu Dulcis Memoria (Victoria)
- Jesu Rex Admirabilis (Palestrina)
- Rex Virtutum (Palestrina)
King of Might, King of Glory, King of eminent Victory! Jesus, Granter of pardon, Honor of the heavenly kingdom!
After mass, during the procession we will sing “Christus Vincit”, to proclaim the reign of Christ our King, as well as the familiar hymn, “Crown him with many Crowns”.
Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ commands!
The Mater Dei Adoration Society invites the entire parish to the next First Friday all-night adoration vigil of the Two Hearts beginning on March 6. In keeping with the tradition begun by the Sisters of the Carmelite Monastery in Dallas, the purpose of this vigil is to beg God’s mercy and Our Lady’s intercession for America.
It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (then celebrated on December 9th) that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges these two feasts to honor Our Blessed Mother and to pray for the sanctity of all human life.
